I’ve just started reading your book after studying it like the librarian that I am. It is very scholarly with great appendices, maps, charts and a logical arrangement. My first impression is that it is impressive. I was certified to teach history and I am still learning things from your book that I didn’t know.

Wow, what I didn’t know about the Texas Revolution and the Mexican American War! – I came across this short book and was so glad I did. I learned so much about the History of Texas, California and Mexico I was surprised. I live in Texas and thought I knew about our history. This is a well written book and I am very glad I got to read it.

Well written and beautifully illustrated – Zink’s history of Texas is developed with the perfect blend of contextual backdrop, bullet-list timelines, beautiful illustrations, and sufficient granularity to engage the senses. It is the “Cliff Notes” of Texas, and more. Sandra beautifully weaves together American and Mexican history to tell the story of Texas. Shockingly for this reader, I learned that America won the southwest U.S. from Mexico in war, and then paid Mexico as much as was paid to France for the Louisana purchase to acquire the conquered lands. More shockingly still, the Mexican-American war resulted in Mexico loosing ALL of its lands to the U.S. An American flag flew over the Mexican capital for almost 6 months before the conquering army returned all of Mexico’s territory south of the Rio Grande. Thank you for a great read Sandra Zink!

Discovering Nepal 2014: Fulfillment of a Lifelong Dream

What an adventure! Sandra Zink became enamored with mountains at age 8, when her Kansas farm family went camping at Yellowstone. Over the years, seeing Mt. Everest, in Nepal, grew higher and higher among all the desires of a lifetime. But it wasn’t until age 75 that she was presented with an opportunity to achieve her fondest dream.

Sandra does a wonderful job of sharing both the triumphs and the trials of her travels. It makes for a surprising revelation of the geography, the culture, and the accommodations of that part of the world. To learn of their various dining places itself is a marvel, to say nothing of the trekking and climbing, or even the navigation of the traffic in Kathmandu.

This book was an enjoyable read. For those of us who are in the latter stages of life, we can relate to the challenges of taking on such an adventure.
